ABOUT THE ROLE

Our client is seeking an experienced Construction Project Engineer to support utility infrastructure projects, with a focus on substations and transmission lines, within heavy industrial and commercial construction environments. This individual will play a key role in project planning, execution, and closeout, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and in compliance with all regulatory standards. The role requires strong leadership in developing project scopes, cost estimates, and schedules; conducting site visits and field assessments; supporting critical path scheduling; managing construction bid packages and contractor selection; participating in constructability reviews; performing quality assurance checks; and ensuring adherence to regulatory and safety standards. The ideal candidate will have over 10 years of relevant experience, a bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, and a deep understanding of construction practices, codes, and regulations. Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and organizational skills are essential for success in this fast-paced, multi-project environment.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Participate in project teams to develop project scope, cost estimates, and schedules for utility infrastructure projects.
  • Create detailed construction plans and identify outage requirements.
  • Conduct site visits and field assessments to validate project scope and requirements.
  • Support the development of project schedules, including critical path analysis and milestone tracking.
  • Identify required permits and prepare detailed project estimates.
  • Coordinate with the utility company's major accounts group on outages impacting customers.
  • Develop and manage construction bid packages, lead pre-bid meetings, review contractor proposals, and support vendor selection.
  • Participate in constructability reviews across multiple disciplines, including site, foundation, electrical, relay, and transmission line.
  • Perform quality assurance checks throughout all phases of construction.
  • Monitor project progress against in-service dates and ensure timely delivery of project milestones.
  • Ensure strict adherence to utility procedures, regulatory requirements, and safety standards, including OSHA and environmental regulations.
  • Manage contract closeout processes and ensure completion and accuracy of as-built documentation.
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, engineers, and cross-functional teams to ensure project alignment and successful execution.
WHAT YOU BRING
  • 10+ years of experience in heavy industrial or commercial construction, with a focus on utility infrastructure projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of construction practices, techniques, and quality standards.
  • Familiarity with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements, including OSHA and environmental regulations.
  • Experience with construction contracts and labor agreements.
  • Ability to coordinate with contractors, vendors, engineers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Working knowledge of rigging and lifting methods.
  • Self-starter with a proactive mindset and the ability to work independently.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent planning and organizational capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple project priorities in a fast-paced environment.
