Key requirements: Required: Ability to read, comprehend, and fit parts and assemblies together from engineering prints and drawings. Previous fitter experience is required. Layout, position, and secure parts and assemblies according to specifications, using straightedge, combination square, calipers, and ruler. Tack-weld or weld components or assemblies using welding equipment (Mig Welding). Inspect grooves, angles, or gaps, using micrometer, caliper, and precision measuring instruments. Remove rough spots from workpieces, using grinder, file, or scraper. Welds components in flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead positions. Heats, forms, and dresses metal parts using welding equipment. Ignites torch and adjusts valve, amperage, or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc. Analyzes engineering drawings, and specs to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations. Develops templates and other work aids to hold and align parts. Ability to read a tape measure and micrometer. Knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials. A clear understanding of machine blueprints and symbols.
