Description:

1. Applies coats of paint, varnish, stains, enamels or lacquer to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, trimmings and fixtures of the hospital, using paint brushes and rollers.

2. Smoothes surfaces using sandpaper, wire brushes, or steel wool and removes old paint from surfaces using paint remover, scrapers, wire brushes or blowtorch to prepare surfaces from painting.

3. Fills nail holes and cracks.

4. Prepares paint to match specified colors by blending and mixing required proporations of pigment, oil, thinning and drying substances.

5. Paint surfaces using brushes, spray gun or paint roller.

6. Simulates wood grain, marble, brick or tile effects.

7. Creates special effects by applying paint with cloth, brush, sponge or fingers.

8. Rigs stage or erects scaffolding. Spreads cloth or canvas over floors and furniture to protect them from spattered paint.

9. Applies dry wall tape and joint compound on new dry wall installation. Prepares joints for installation of wallcovering or painting.

10. May perform any or all of the following: cut stencils and stencil surfaces with lettering or decorations, paint signs on any surface, paper walls and ceilings, apply stipple and glaze finishes, refinish furniture and fixtures, estimate time and material costs on painting and redecorating jobs, perform minor supervisory jobs as designated leader.

Qualifications

A. Education:

High School, GED, Trade School completion preferred.

B. Experience

1 year painter or 1-3 years as painter helper.

C. Licenses, Certificates and/or Registrations:

None required.

D. Equipment/Tools/Work Aids:

Including but not limited to: Paint brushes, rollers, spray guns, wire brushes, ladders, sanding machines, dry wall tools, drop cloths.

E. Specialized Skills:

Able to follow written and verbal directions. Ability to work in tight areas. Able to work with minimal supervision.

F. Physical Requirements:

Lifts and carries objects such as ladders, containers of paint and rolls of covering materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Climbs and balances on ladders when painting upper walls, ceilings and stairways. Kneels, crouches, stoops and crawls when preparing surfaces for painting
