Overview

The Unified Communications Engineer shall be responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise-level unified communications systems. This role requires advanced technical expertise in voice, video, data, and messaging technologies, with a focus on complex troubleshooting, system optimization, and proactive maintenance. The engineer will configure and integrate unified communications systems, diagnose and resolve technical issues, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to support organizational goals. The role may assist in planning and executing technology projects and ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices. Additional duties within the scope of the role may be assigned.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and support enterprise-level unified communications systems.
• Troubleshoot complex issues, optimize systems, and perform proactive maintenance.
• Configure and integrate UC systems; diagnose and resolve technical issues.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support organizational goals and projects.
• Assist in planning and executing technology initiatives; ensure compliance with standards and best practices.
• Handle additional duties within the roles scope as assigned.

Education/Experience

High School diploma or equivalent required. Bachelors degree in a relevant field is preferred. Minimum 26 years of experience in a similar or related role is required; an equivalent combination of experience, education, certifications, and demonstrated proficiency will be considered.

Licensure/Certification

One or more current, industry-standard certifications preferred (e.g., CompTIA ITF+, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, Cisco Certified Technician).

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Strong proficiency in administering and maintaining unified communications systems and related technologies.
• Proficiency with Windows Server and Linux; familiarity with VMware and other virtualization technologies.
• Understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, firewalls).
• Knowledge of scripting languages (PowerShell, Bash, Python) for automation.
• Familiarity with UC platforms (Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Presence, Unity, Expressway, Emergency Responder).
• Experience with cloud-based UC solutions (Microsoft Teams, Cisco Webex, Zoom).
• Ability to identify and resolve basic system issues; strong attention to documentation and configurations.
• Effective oral and written communication; ability to work collaboratively in a team and support senior staff.
