Position Summary

The Director of Clinical Education is responsible for providing quality classroom and laboratory instruction, and all aspects of the clinical experiences of students enrolled in the program, including organization, administration, continuous review and revision, planning for and development of locations (with appropriate supervision) for evolving practice skills, and the general effectiveness of the clinical experience. This position reports to the Director of Respiratory Therapy (Program Coordinator/Director). The continuation of the position is contingent upon grant renewal.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the mission and goals of the community college system, the college, the accrediting body, and the Respiratory Therapy Program.
  2. Schedule, coordinate, supervise, and monitor all Respiratory Therapy student clinical assignments; must have regular and consistent contact with students, clinical faculty, and clinical affiliates at all sites.
  3. Actively participate in curriculum development and review..
  4. Demonstrate and maintain a high level of competence and expertise in the teaching field and subject area.
  5. Teach courses assigned by the Program Director and design and deliver each course ensuring an effective learning experience.
  6. Submit to the Program Director a course plan for each course taught in accordance with college guidelines.
  7. Provide instruction for Respiratory Therapy courses in the day, evening, or online as required.
  8. Implement effective and comprehensive use of current technology and respiratory care equipment in instruction.
  9. Inform students concerning course requirements, evaluation procedures, attendance requirements, and academic progress.
  10. Provide for effective evaluation of the learning experience of each student.
  11. Maintain necessary attendance, scholastic, and personnel records and submit them according to announced deadlines
  12. Participate in institutional and departmental planning and assessment processes.
  13. Assist with obtaining and meeting program accreditation requirements.
  14. Comply with all accrediting body standards and assist in developing and maintaining a quality program
  15. Demonstrate effective people skills, communication skills, and work ethics.
  16. Participate in recruiting for the Respiratory Therapy Program.
  17. Maintain all aspects of the clinical experience for program students.
  18. Assist the Program Director with developing and managing the departmental budget in support of institutional goals and mission.
  19. Advise students regarding academic course offerings as assigned.
  20. Seek continuous improvement of the Respiratory Therapy Program curriculum, instruction, and resources.
  21. Serve on college committees as assigned.
  22. Coordinate with the Health Science Coach to develop a "Success Plan" for students at risk for failing and low performance.
  23. Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Health Science, Assistant Dean of Allied Health or Program Coordinator.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Baccalaureate Degree from an academic institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE).
  2. Four (4) years' experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two (2) years in clinical respiratory care.
  3. Must hold a valid Registered Respiratory Therapy (RRT) credential and current state license (Must show proof of valid/current RRT credential and state license).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Master's degree from an academic institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE).

Sick Leave
All regular full-time instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is equivalent to 7 hours per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. Retirement
The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Tuition Assistance
This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy. The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education. An application form for the tuition assistance program is available in the Human Resources office and should be completed prior to registration for classes.
