Overview
GovCIO is actively seeking a talented Backend Software Engineer to lead a sustainment and enhancement project focused on modernizing legacy systems for VA.gov. This is a full-time remote role within the United States. Please note that this position is contingent upon the contract award.

Responsibilities

• Manage backend development efforts for legacy system modernization, maintaining and enhancing VA.gov.
• Assist with system development planning and deployment, adhering to software compliance standards.
• Prepare operating instructions and compile comprehensive documentation of program development.
• Analyze system capabilities to address program intent, output requirements, and input data acquisition.
• Work collaboratively with a team of front-end and back-end developers across multiple projects.
• Uphold high standards of excellence by establishing best practices and work habits.
• Diagnose and correct data discrepancies to ensure accuracy.
• Implement new features and maintain existing functionalities within VA.gov tools.
• Assist in gathering user requirements and developing user stories, estimations, and work plans.
• Support the Business Analysis team in preparing reports, manuals, and operational procedures.
• Integrate with necessary applications, collaborating with associated system development teams.
• Proactively communicate and coordinate with various internal and external stakeholders.
• Analyze detailed system factors, including input/output requirements and alternative problem resolution methods.
• Participate in code reviews and Sprint Reviews to ensure adherence to contract deliverables and specifications.

Qualifications

• Required Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of relevant experience or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in backend development technologies and databases.
  • Experience with version control using GitHub.
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with Agile Methodology and Scrum processes.
  • Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a remote environment.
  • Must be a US citizen or authorized to work in the US.

• Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Experience with the VA and/or other Federal Agencies.
  • Knowledge of the VA Veteran-Focused Integration Process (VIP) project management methodology.
  • Experience in a Scrum/Agile environment.
  • Familiarity with Jira and Confluence.
  • Experience working within the VA.gov platform, alongside the Office of Information and Technology (OIT).
  • Eligibility for clearance and ability to obtain and maintain a Suitability/Public Trust clearance.

Posted Pay Range
The posted pay range represents the expected range for this position at the start of employment. Base pay may vary depending on various individualized factors such as market location, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity. The total compensation may also include additional elements of compensation, which will be discussed during the hiring process.

If hired, employees will be in an at-will position, and GovCIO reserves the right to modify salary and other compensation programs at any time, including for performance-related reasons and market factors.

Posted Salary Range: USD $75,000.00 - USD $110,000.00 /Yr.
