Alabama State University invites applications to fill the position of Director, Youth Transportation Workforce Development Program. The selected applicant will manage and supervise the recruitment functions and responsibilities relative to enhancing employment opportunities in transportation for young people in under-represented groups, and helping to motivate and prepare them to become an important part of the transportation workforce.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Contact and communicate with Administrators and/or Career Counselors at various high schools and colleges throughout the State of Alabama to gain permission to enroll students in the workforce development program.
  2. Coordinate the initial meeting for students and their mentors (ALDOT supervisors).
  3. Recruit, screen, select, and place high school and college students in designated internships within ALDOT; notify applicants of acceptance or non-acceptance.
  4. Provide accepted applicants with a YTWD Welcome Packet.
  5. Ensure that the interns work a minimum of 20 hours per week.
  6. Project oversight and management, reporting, and other administrative functions.
  7. Communicate with the interns and their supervisors on a bi-monthly basis to assess performance, progress, or concerns.
  8. Plan and host a closing/awards program prior to the end of the YTWD program.
  9. Conduct a one-year follow-up survey with all intern participants of the YTWD Program.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in a STEM discipline or related field. Two years of grant funded program experience or operation management is highly desirable.
