Job Description
Alabama State University, Student Affairs/Housing and Residential Life, invites applications for the position of Residence Hall Coordinator III. The Residence Hall Coordinator III will assist in implementing a residence life program that promotes community development and student engagement in the residence halls. Each unit in housing accommodates anywhere from 100 to 500 students whose demographic is mainly undergraduate students. The Residence Hall Coordinator III will focus their position on staff supervision and development, making recommendations for student discipline to Judicial Affairs, program development, property management, and on call response to a variety of situations. Ensure that all housing regulations designed to protect the residence hall against fire, theft or vandalism are properly enforced; coordinates with University Police, Student Health Services, local Emergency Medical Services to ensure that all emergency situations that threaten residence hall residents receive appropriate response. Distributes mail, memorandums, information bulletins and telephone call notices to all students residing in the residence hall. The Residence Hall Coordinator III will also assist in the process for staff selection and training for Resident Assistants. The Residence Hall Coordinator III also work closely with the Assistant Director of Housing & Residence Life and the entire Housing Leadership Team to create residential environments that demonstrate inclusive excellence, promote academic success, and enhance student retention Alabama State University. The Residence Hall Coordinator III reports to the Assistant Director of Housing and Residential Life with supervision from the Director of Housing and Residential Life, and performs other duties as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage the day-to-day operation of assigned residence hall community and provide adult supervision and crisis intervention
- Support and attend student-sponsored events and activities with the residential community
- Responsible for assuring time sheets, daily reports, incident reports ad all other related paperwork and forms are completed in a timely and accurate manner
- Maintain room rosters, to include room number and telephone number for all occupants
- Initiate and support policies, programs, and projects that create a holistic residential living and learning environment that supports the overall mission and vision of ASU
- Coordinate, plan, schedule and present, in conjunction with other residential life staff, an assortment of educational and social programs
- Ensure that facilities issues are reported accurately and promptly and to the appropriate sources, and resolved
- Provide support, training, guidance, expectations, and mentoring for the front desk work study staff
- Serve as an advisor, mentor, support and resources for the Residence Hall Council
- Coordinate and meet regularly with staff members and students
- Investigate and respond to concerns of students, parents, university staff, and others in a manner that provides accurate information
- Implement building safety and security measures
- Collaborate with appropriate University departments on health and safety inspections, fire drills, roster verifications process, dorm openings and closings, housing selections process, transition processes and roommate changes
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree, 2 years of related work experience, be available for duty and rotating on-call service during weekends, alternate shifts, various days of the week, and some holidays are required. Candidate may be required to live in residence hall location either on or off campus as assigned. Much of the work to be done within a generally accessible, safe, indoor environment and will occasionally be required to move furniture, equipment or participate in facility operations that require a basic level of physical strength, climb up and down stairs, operate a personal computer and associated equipment.
