Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and MCCP Board Rules & Regulations

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to oversee a small crew of semiskilled and unskilled workers andparticipate in maintenance/construction projects in various departments with the City of Montgomery. The major work duties include planning assignments, supervising a crew performing skilled and semi-skilled work, and documenting project activities. The distinguishing characteristic of this classification is Labor Foreman I positions are working supervisors, so they not only perform supervisory duties they also perform duties assigned to their subordinates. The Labor Foreman I must be familiar with all of the tasks assigned to a crew aswell as the equipment operated in order to monitor work progress and train employees in the performance of their duties. Assignments are received at the beginning of the shift and the foreman typically prioritizes the assignments. Supervisors are contactedfor guidance in cases of unexpected occurrences or unanticipated situations. Labor Foremen I are distinguished from Labor Foremen II by the level of skill possessed by subordinates

Minimum Qualifications

One (1) year of experience as alead worker on a utility, construction, or maintenance crew.NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experiencethat provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the jobwill be considered.

Special Requirements

This positions require possessionof an Alabama Commercial Driver'sLicense as needed to drive and operate city vehicles and equipment.WORKING CONDITIONS:The majority of the jobs requireworking outside which includes traveling over rough, uneven, or rocky surfacesand working in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to elements toinclude heat, cold, rain and dust. All jobs require movement of objectsweighing from 50-70 pounds with assistance; bending or stooping repeatedly overtime; and working with cleaning fluids, chemicals, pesticide, insecticides,paint, cleaning agents or similar solutions. May work some weekends during peakseasons or prior to and after special city events. May work longer than normalregular hours to ensure project completion in a timely manner. Some positionsrequire shift work.PHYSICAL ABILITIES:Physical ability to lift and moveobjects from 50-70 pounds as needed to move materials at work site.Physical abilityto sit, stand, walk, stoop, bend, climb ladder, and reach above head repeatedlyfor extended periods of time as needed to complete various work tasks.
